Community Exploration

Help Us Explore a New Charter School for the Poughkeepsie Area

Building a New Educational Opportunity — Together

For more than 30 years, Nubian Directions II, Inc. has worked alongside young people and families to provide education, technology, workforce development, mentoring, and pathways to brighter futures.

We are now exploring the possibility of establishing a new charter school for the Poughkeepsie area designed to provide students in grades 9–12, including over-age and under-credited students who remain eligible for secondary education, with a strong academic foundation while connecting learning to technology, innovation, career exploration, leadership, and real-world experiences.

This school is not yet established or approved. Before moving forward, we want to hear from the people who matter most — our community and our families.

Would Your Family Be Interested?

Community support is an important part of determining whether this vision should move forward.

If a high-quality charter school reflecting these goals were approved and opened in Poughkeepsie, would you consider enrolling your child or children?

By completing our Community Interest Form, you can help us understand the level of interest among local families and help shape what this school could become.

Completing the form is not an application for admission and does not obligate you to enroll your child. It is simply an expression of interest and support for exploring this educational opportunity.

YES — MY FAMILY IS INTERESTED

Our Vision

We envision a school where students can:

  • Receive rigorous and personalized academic instruction
  • Explore STEM, technology, and emerging careers
  • Learn through hands-on projects and real-world experiences
  • Develop leadership, communication, and workplace skills
  • Benefit from mentoring and relationships with caring adults
  • Explore college, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and career pathways
  • Learn in an environment where families and community partners are active participants

Your Voice Matters

A charter school should grow from the needs and aspirations of the community it intends to serve. We do not want to simply create a school for the community. We want to explore building one with the community.

If this is the kind of educational opportunity you would like to see available to local families, please let us know. Together, we can determine whether there is sufficient community interest to take the next steps toward making this vision a reality.
