NEW DIRECTIONS YOUTHBUILD AMERICORPS PARTNERSHIP

The New Directions YouthBuild Partnership is a comprehensive youth development program that offers GED prep, job training, counseling and leadership development for out-of-school youths ages 16-24, through the construction and rehabilitation of affordable housing in their neighborhoods. YouthBuild students are also members of AmeriCorps and Rotaract, which emphasizes community service projects.

Employment and Computer Literacy Training

Nubian Directions’ employment training programs prepare individuals to take national standard exams that certify their readiness for entry-level employment. .  For example, our work readiness (soft skills) training program prepares individuals to take the National Work Readiness Credential (NWRC) Exam.

Our computer training courses are designed for beginners, intermediate and/or advanced adult learners.  Courses include PC Sampler, a basic introduction to computer course for beginners.  Intermediate and advanced computer courses include Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.  For individuals interested in a globally recognized certification course, we offer the Internet and Computer Core Certification (IC3) course designed to help individuals prepare to take the IC3 certification exam

GED Program

Offered by Dutchess Community College at our location, GED prep courses are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm. The program is designed for individuals 18 and older.  ESL GED prep courses are offered on Monday through Thursday evenings from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  Childcare is available on-site.

Community Computer Lab

Nubian Directions’ Community Computer Lab is open to the public daily, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. There is a fee for Internet access and printing. All other services are FREE!


Testing Center

Nubian Directions is a certified proctored test site for Castle Worldwide, a leading full-service certification and licensure company.  For fields ranging from engineering to medical technology to physical fitness, Castle develops tests for the certification or licensure of professionals, to assess the knowledge and skills of employees for training purposes, or as a pre-employment check for potential hires.

Nubian Directions is also a certified proctored assessment site for the National Work Readiness Credential exam administered on-line by Castle Worldwide.  The Work Readiness Credential (WRC) is a group of tests designed to determine if candidates have the skills they need to enter the workforce.  A wide variety of workers, supervisors, managers, businesses, and government agencies have worked together to determine what a person needs to know to be a successful employee.  The WRC shows that the person who earns it by passing all four tests has demonstrated knowledge and skills important to successful employment in entry-level positions.  A student, job seeker, or worker who earns the WRC will have a national, transferable certification of skills and knowledge in entry-level employment.

 

Nubian Directions is a certified proctored testing site for Certiport, Inc., a pioneer in providing complete career-oriented certification solutions to academic institutions and IT Professionals.  Certiport certifies individuals with current and relevant digital skills and credentials in Microsoftº Office Specialist (MOS 2007, formerly MCAS) and Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) programs, globally recognized standards for digital literacy and desktop computing proficiency.
